In the 21st century, we’re fighting nearly supernatural sources of toxicity, and our human bodies are losing ground. Simply put, we have not evolved quickly enough to adapt to the 10,000 or more mood-altering, hormone-disrupting, health-robbing compounds we ingest, absorb and breathe in every day. Most of us are unaware that our own bodies also produce powerful toxins that can make our mind foggy, cause us to crave sugar, disrupt sleep, and ultimately make us fat. Now, this is not a scare tactic. You must realize that we no longer have the luxury of ignoring our bodies. It’s a war out there. If you want to feel LEAN, RADIANT, ENERGIZED and BALANCED again, it’s imperative that you do everything you can to SUPPORT your body and fight smart.
Here are FIVE simple DETOX strategies to help you jump-start your body’s natural ability to flush out toxins, let go of toxic body fat and feel VIBRANT, CLEAR and LEAN again!
1) Start your morning off right
No, that would not be with a cup of Joe. Instead, begin your morning routine with a glass of filtered water with lemon. This is a gentle yet effective way to support and cleanse the liver, improve digestion and increase fat loss. Squeeze 1/2 to 1 whole lemon into 8 ounces of water, and drink it down. Repeat the process 10-15 minutes before each meal. Lemon stimulates gall bladder contractions, which facilitates the removal of toxins and helps with proper fat digestion. The lemon also delivers important vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, potassium, and trace minerals. Please use fresh, ripe lemons, not prepared lemon juice, as it will be lacking in important health-giving enzymes.

2) Incorporate this powerful herb into your daily routine.
Milk Thistle has been used medicinally for over 2000 thousand years to help improve the body’s ability to neutralize toxins. It prevents the depletion of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that’s 5000 times more powerful than Vitamin C or Vitamin E. Glutathione is used to neutralize toxic chemicals and to metabolize things like alcohol and medications. Milk thistle has been shown to increase the level of glutathione in the liver by up to 35%. My favorite way to get Milk Thistle daily is with Arbonne’s Detox Tea. It’s a perfectly balanced blend of detoxifying herbs, including Milk Thistle, and it tastes great! Drink it hot in the winter or as iced tea with mint in the summertime. Drink 1-3 cups per day.
3) Eat or Drink your GREENS every day!
The liver is a major powerhouse in the body. It produces enzymes, balances sugar levels and converts fat into energy. If it’s overburdened, the liver can’t keep up with all the body’s jobs, and your metabolism slows down. One way to give your liver and body a quick tune-up is to eat foods containing sulfur compounds. Nutrient-rich veggies like kale, Swiss chard, dandelion greens, watercress, cauliflower, broccoli, bok choy and Brussels sprouts help restore the body’s balance and promote overall health and vitality. Onion, garlic and eggs also contain high levels of sulfur compounds. The main role of vegetables is to assist with all stages of bodily detoxification. Cruciferous veggies provide many of the sulfur compounds, phyto-nutrients and anti-oxidants we need to rid our body of chemicals that we unintentionally ingest from sources such as prescription medications and environmental toxins. These compounds are especially important for individuals who consider themselves to be “super-sensitive” to things like, alcohol, medications, pain meds, caffeine, MSG, and even cigarette smoke and perfume. This may be an indication that your MTHFR pathway is defective as a result of your genetics and/or your lifestyle.

The good news is that by eating more vegetables, especially greens, you can support, improve and restore your body’s capability to combat and flush toxins naturally.
Drinking your greens is one of the easiest ways to ensure you’re getting your consuming daily quota of 3-9 cups of cruciferous veggies. Juice them or toss them into a blender, and viola! You have a liquid meal loaded with sulfur-containing amino acids, which help to flush hidden toxins from the body.
Did you know that toxins like to hide in stored body fat and may explain why you can’t seem to shed body fat? Toxins program your body to store fat. If you’re already overburdened by circulating toxins, your body will hold on to body fat as a way to prevent more toxins from being released.
Nutrient-rich veggies like kale, Swiss chard, dandelion greens, watercress, cauliflower, broccoli, bok choy and Brussels sprouts help to bring the body back into balance to promote overall health and vitality.
Here’s a delicious, easy -to- prepare Detox smoothie, I’m sure you’ll enjoy..…
- 1 head of kale, Swiss chard, OR spinach (Sulfur compounds help rid the body of pollution, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and other toxins.)
- Small handful cilantro (astringent compounds help draw out toxins from body fat and tissue)
- 1 apple & 1 pear (these provide pectin, which is a great source of soluble fiber that helps to bind toxins for easier elimination)
- Juice of ½ lime (citrus fruits contain flavonoids to help minimize the damage caused by circulating toxins)
- 1 tbsp. Chia seeds (great source of Omega 3’s, fiber & protein. Provides beneficial fat and fiber for satiety)
- 1 tbsp. Great Lake Grass-fed Gelatin– (contains sulfur containing amino acids the most powerful protective compound for your liver)
- Optional: 1 banana (good source of potassium and sweetness)
4) Consume plenty of soluble and insoluble fiber.
Adding additional fiber is vital in binding toxins and supporting the colon in its role of toxin elimination. In addition to lots of fresh vegetables, ground chia seed are recommended. You should be eliminating at least 1-2 times per day.
5) Soak in a Toxin Elimination Bath
Epsom salt baths are an incredible way to remove harmful substances like heavy metals and toxins, ease muscle pain and even induce relaxation. They’re also a great way to get more magnesium into your body, a nutrient that as much as 90% of the population is deficient in. Magnesium is the second most abundant element in human cells and helps to regulate over 300 enzymatic processes in the body. Its benefits may be more far-reaching than we’ve imagined.
Magnesium deficiency symptoms include:
- Muscle cramps and weakness
- Numbness and tingling
- Chocolate cravings
- Nausea and vomiting
- Poor memory
- High blood pressure
- Type II Diabetes
- Calcium and potassium deficiency
Each evening, place 1 cup of Epsom salts, apple cider vinegar or seaweed powder and one cup of baking soda in the tub, run the hottest water you can stand, and add 8 drops lavender oil. Soak for 20 minutes and allow yourself to sweat. When you’re finished bathing, wrap yourself in towels, go under the covers, and sweat some more. You should feel relaxed and sleep soundly.
Lastly – and this may seem obvious – but there is no use in trying to get rid of toxins if you are still ingesting them. Some are obvious: chemical additives in food, pesticides, herbicides, etc. Others, may not be so obvious. Consumables like alcohol, sugar, caffeine, GMO’s, gluten & diary can be incredibly taxing on your digestive tract and interfere with healthy, balanced digestion. Ironically, this can set you up for an entirely new set of toxic circumstances. Toxins that are produced internally by bacteria that love rotting food, fungus and parasites.
Others toxins to watch out for are those found all plastics – even BPA-free plastics.
